The Hindustan Ambassador was manufactured by Hindustan Motors of INDIA at uttarpara plant near Kolkatta, West Bengal which was based on Morris series 111. It was one of the cars to be produced in INDIA and had been in production for more than 50years.Its production was started from the year 1958 till 2014.
On 11th February 2017, the company has sold its ambassador brand including its trademark to French company so-called Groupe PSA, at a cost of Rs 80crore (US$ 12 million).
Till now it is known as the best suitable car for the Indian roads.It remained as a legend in the world of the automobile because of its tank-like curve design which hasn't got much modified and maintained its uniqueness.
This was the only brand which served Government of India in each aspect like political transport purpose even in Army and for public too.
As it had a better ground clearance its was the best suitable for Indian roads, so it was known as "king of the Indian road" and had low economic and best diesel engine with more efficiency and power too at a lower cost.
People enjoyed a lot, to have a journey in this car because of comfort and huge boot space to keep luggage, it was used in many Indian Bollywood old movies too.
It was later banned in the year 2011, because of its high emission level though, the company used a diesel cleaner it had been banned its manufacturing state Kolkata itself.

- Mark-1
Its production year started from the year 1957 until the year 1962, which consisted of 1489cc, BMC B- series petrol engine, which chunks 55bhp power.
- Mark -11
In the year 1962, the company had made some changes in the car like interior and dashboard.Its production took place from the year 1962 until the year 1975.At that time it had a competition with Premier Padmini and standard Gazel.
- Mark 111
In 1975, a company has again made some modifications like horizontal grills and deluxe look of the car according to a modern era.Its production started from the year 1975 until the year 1979 with the 1760cc engine in it.
- Mark -1V
In the year 1979, again a small variation in look taken place with small horizontal grill and installed with an amber indicator at the front bumper took place.In this year the company has introduced a diesel engine car which was 1489cc @37bhp power along with petrol one.
- Ambassador NOVA
In 1990, the company introduced its all-new ambassador nova in two variants i.e diesel as well as petrol with new steering as well as a hinged braking system.
- Ambassador 1800 ISZ, Classic.
In 1992, the company introduced its new model Ambassador 1800 ISZ, Classic which means it consists of 1817cc Isuzu inline-four engine @75bhp power. Its production took place from the year 1992 until the year 2011.
- Ambassador Grand
In 2003, the company has launched the new model as Ambassador Grand with many changes when compared with previous models like door button, dashboard, steering etc..
- Ambassador Avigo
In 2004, the company has launched it's another new model Ambassador Avigo in which the tail lamp and number plate was redesigned while the rear remains same.
- Ambassador Encore
In 2013 the last model was launched to reach the BS1V standards with the diesel engine of 1.5 litres although it chunks 48PS power too.
- Ambierod
It was the customised model introduced by D.C (Dilip Chhabria) keeping in the concept of Ambassador. We can say this design was a special edition design for VIP model with all comforts and luxury having a butterfly door and beautiful attractive designing of exterior and interior too.
